One of my favourite summer activities to do with my little ones – strawberry and raspberry picking. The delicious red fruits and the beautiful Devon countryside as a backdrop, freedom for the children and a snack as fresh as they come!
Have fun and please don’t forget to tag us in your pics – love seeing the excited smiles that strawberry picking brings and would love to replace this picture with one of your little ones enjoying themselves.
Pick and Play: Strawberry Fields Lifton know how to create fun for the kids and every year have something knew – this year their Strawberry Picking Experience – it’s bound to be great for our little ones. There’s a ‘Farm Barn’ complete with farm animals: baby calves, our resident goats (Bill & Ben) and our newest addition to the farm – Babs the pig, with a group of beautiful piglets due in July, giant sand pit, hay bale mountain, mini games. In the field there’s also a hidden golden strawberry – find it and receive a prize!
After you have finished in the fields and the barn, the children will also enjoy the small play park and the space for running around which is just next to the outdoor tables – perfect for you to be able to keep and eye on the preschoolers while having a quieter lunch. Or take a picnic blanket to sit on the lawn with babies so crawlers can have a bit of freedom too. The restaurant is praised and their afternoon picnics (pre-booked) look pretty special too.
This year there is also a Maize Maze £5 per person (under 2s free) find out all you need to know here: maize-maze
Price: Tickets £2.50 each (under 2s free). Some free off peak tickets available too.
Address: Strawberry Fields, Lifton, Devon, PL16 0DE

Open daily throughout the summer (9am – 5pm) with last admission to the fields at 4pm. Even if the rain sets in we remain open thanks to our all weather poly tunnels – so have your wellies at the ready!
We have spent a lot of time at Thorne’s Farm Shop PYO! The fruit is delicious fruit with strawberries growing both on the ground in the polytunnels, and on ‘tables’ with the fruit handing low enough that my just turned 2 year old could reach last year. They have a cafe too with much more outdoor seating than previous years for you to be able to enjoy some lunch, cake or a chat! (and I can vouch for the take away meringues – yum!)
Price: in 2021 the prices were: Strawberries £5.99 kg or Raspberries £6.99 kg
Picnic spot: We found this beautiful spot in-between the lockdowns. Drive out of Thornes back to the main road. Go straight over and when at the top of the hill there is a car park on the left. Take your picnic and enjoy the panoramic views of glorious countryside and a lovely little wander to the tree and back. Parking: What3words: stream.weedy.umbrellas
