Ullacombe Farm

Loos Baby changing Pram friendly

A gem of a cafe and play space for mums, babies and toddlers on the edge of Dartmoor.

Whether you’re popping in after a wander round Haytor or Parke (which are just up the road) or making a whole morning or afternoon of it, Ullacombe farm shop is a fantastic place to take the little ones come rain or shine.

What’s there?

Inside fun

For a wet weather day in autumn, winter, spring or during the great British summer, the indoor barn offers a good option for little people fun.  There are ride-on tractors of various sizes, so children of all ages can get involved – really little legs can reach the floor and scoot around on the 2 smallest of tractors and older and taller kids can enjoy ones for their size too.  Some have trailers and the children busy themselves going around the haybales, picking up hay for their trailer and depositing it elsewhere! Some even enjoy a bit of sweeping up with the broom (not necessarily a transferable skill for home though – sorry about that!).  It’s an open barn so don’t expect heating, instead dress-up warm in winter and enjoy a hot drink from the café.

Outdoor fun

When you can tear the children from the barn, or the weather turns brighter, the climbing structure, slide, swings and Wendy house provide lots of entertainment. There’s also a decommissioned, real tractor and what child doesn’t love a tractor?!  Further along, you can visit the chickens in their pen and other animals in the fields (or barn in colder or wetter times) have a short wander around the farm fields through woods.

The farm shop serves delicious lunches, cream teas and cakes so do make sure that you are tempted by their menu.  Children are well catered for with high chairs and toys and books to play with.  There’s not a lot of room between tables so leave best to buggies in the car if possible, but a few can be accommodated.  The shop sells all foods to take home as well as gifts and the butchers on the opposite side of the courtyard will look after all your meat needs.

Ullacombe Farm Shop host many events throughout the year that children will love.  Check out their Facebook page for details of upcoming events.  https://www.facebook.com/UllacombeFarmShopBarnCafe/

A great place to take the kids for a few hours.

Take the babies: Babies can be stimulated by the fresh outdoors on the farm trail and meeting the animals and mums can enjoy a natter from the comfort of the sofas in the café which serves lovely cakes and food options.  The café isn’t roomy for lots of buggies so best leave those in the car.  Clean and stocked up Baby changing facilities.

A good place to have a toddler play date as the area is small enough to keep them all close by (so you can actually have a conversation) but with enough different things to keep them interested.  All for the price of a cuppa tea and maybe cake… or lunch… or both.
