May Half Term 2023: What’s on for kids in Devon

19th May – 11th June: Dinosaurs in the Park, Central Park, Plymouth. Over 3s: £11.18 Family ticket: £42.60. 40 life-sized, realistic animatronic dinosaurs from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods move their heads, jaws, and claws and hiss, snarl, and growl, to provide an exhilarating and truly immersive experience. There are also quiet sessions for noise sensitive visitors.

27th – 2nd June: Craft workshops with Pom Stitch Tassel, Bovey Tracey, for ages from 5+, £15/£20 Fabulous craft and sewing workshops will be back for the week including: Beginners embroidery, Create a pom pom letter, Beginners sewing, Cupcake decorating, Knitted wire llama, Drop in crafting.

27th May: ZOO! by the English Touring Opera, Paignton Zoo, 2pm. Free. Zoo! Is English Touring Opera’s new multi-sensory opera for audiences with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and children aged 2 to 5 years. It tells the story of Ari the zookeeper, who is trying to get tree frog to it’s new home. But oh no! Tree frog has gone missing. Ari has to look all over the zoo for tree frog, and she meets some exciting animals along the way…

27th May: Flavours of Us, Barnfield Theatre Exeter, 12:00pm & 3:00pm, Pay What You Choose: Adult £14/£8 child £7/£4. Devon’s Caribbean, Hindu and Polish communities invite you to join them for Flavours of Us – a family friendly food and culture event including: Afternoon Tea with a Twist – Take a seat at our table and sample sweet and savoury treats and drinks from each culture, served in a high tea style; Community memory sharing circle; Creative installations; and Children’s craft workshop

27th-29th May: Exeter Fest, Northernhay Gardens, Free Entrance. Music, food, drink, fabulous entertainment and crafts perfect for little ones and the great atmosphere of Exeter’s most central green space. Bring your picnic blanket and come join us for a great weekend filled with relaxing vibes and great local brands.

27th – 31st May: Powderham Outdoor Cinema, Powderham Castle, Adult (16+) – £15, Child (U16) – £7, Family (2+2) – £35. This one is probably one for the older children as films start at 7:30pm. Films such as Greece and The Greatest Showman would be great to enjoy together as a family.

27th May – 11th June: Magical Unicorn Week at Pennywell Farm. Use Code LDMU23 for Free 7 day upgrade. Pennywell is always magical, add in unicorns and you’ve got a super magical day! In addition to all the usual Pennywell fun, get the chance to meet a REAL LIFE Unicorn! Complete the Magical Trail around the farm to earn your official graduation to the Unicorn School of Magic! Relax on the Unicorn bench. Discover your very own Unicorn name! Find some fantastic themed photo areas around the farm. Spot the Unicorns hiding on the Tractor & Trailer ride.

30th May: Alpaca Experience at Cannonteign Falls. Day admission (use code Little Devon for 10% discount) plus Alpaca Experience £25 Family group (2 adults and 3 children – children age 6+). A 45 minute experience where you meet, hand feed, interact one-to-one and take a walk with an Alphca from Lakemoor Alpacas with plenty of photo opportunities.

30th May – 2nd June: Meraki Art School workshops, Guildhall,age 4- 8+, £12-£23 depending on class. Fun and inspiring art classes in Devon for young people aged 4-16 with a passion for art and craft. Run and delivered by passionate professional artists. Teaching traditional skills in Art and Design that will serve our pupils well into their creative futures.

2nd June: Mog Mask Making & Storytime, 10am and 11am , Exeter Library. Free, A pawsome morning of craft and storytelling. Join us for our tactile craft event where children will get to make their very own Mog the cat mask using straws, felt, cotton wool, and shiny paper. After the craft activity, our Alison will read some delightful Mog stories written by Judith Kerr. Your child can even wear their new cat mask while listening to the stories
