Steps Bridge a lovely wander along the river to find a field of mini daffs, Powderham Castle’s magnificent driveway of daffodils is beautiful, Bicton has a bank of daffs that are lovely and RHS Rosemoor in the gorgeous gardens. Doing this trail of places always cheers me up if I’m in a slump with the weather.

March: Go foraging for Wild Garlic in Columbjohn Woods, Nr Killerton – in April and May it also boasts lots of lovely bluebells as well as the wild garlic, with a beautiful view too. Parking: There is a small lay-by What3words: shed.clinking.mystery Please forage responsibly taking only a small amount, and only if you’re confident with what you’re picking.

7th March: Celebrate World Book Day – head to your local library and celebrate in a low key way reading a variety of books and joining in singing nursery rhymes if its on that day (Bounce and Rhyme is a fab 20-30 mins of nursery rhyme singing let by the library staff. Its drop in and a great)

10th March: Mother’s Day. Treat yourself to tea and cake date with your little one. Or have a look at our Mother’s Day Gift Guides: 2020 & 2021

13th March: The Farmer & the Clown at Barnfield Theatre, Ages 3+ £12. A story of unexpected friendship told through physical comedy and dance. An old hard-working farmer lives alone. One day, a baby clown accidentally bounces off a passing circus train and is separated from his family and friends. A little reluctantly at first, the farmer takes the clown in and, as time passes, they discover that by being with each other, they find something new in themselves. Adapted from the charming picture-book The Farmer & the Clown linked here. I always like to read the book to my children first so they are familiar with the story line and it really especially the younger ones to enjoy it.

18th March: Canonteign Falls Opens for the Season. We love Canonteign and have had annual membership for a couple of years. It’s a lovely waterfall walk and there are multiple fab play areas for the kids as well as the beautiful serene lower lakes. Remember to use the discount code LittleDevon for 10% discount off day entry and annual membership.

20th March: World Frog day. Who knew there was such as day as World Frog Day but here it is – a great excuse to go out and hunt for frogspawn!

26th March is Earth Hour where we switch off our lights and consider ‘nature loss, the climate crisis, and the need to shape a brighter future for people and planet’. Why not hold it a bit earlier than the 8:30pm so your children can join in too. Think dinner by candle light, torches to light up bath time… This book – Earth Hour – might help them to understand why (aff link)
