Buggyfit, by Jen at Lemon Fitness, is an outdoor exercise class devised for postnatal Mums allowing you to bring your baby or babies in the pram or buggy. After having a baby, life appears to absorb all your time with ‘baby activities’, and clinic visits; but studies show that taking time out for yourself, especially to exercise, is fantastic not only for your fitness levels but mental state too, relieving stress, improving stamina and making for a happier Mum. Buggyfit comes with the added bonus of exercising with like- minded women enabling you to make new friends and benefit from the social fun these classes bring.
The social and mental benefits are of course not the only focus at a Buggyfit class. All Buggyfit trainers are fully qualified and insured fitness professionals, who understand what a new Mum’s body has been through and know what training is needed at each postnatal stage. The Trainers also ensure each Mum gets an appropriate workout to suit her fitness level, be it back to fitness from a fit pre pregnancy, or starting from scratch.
Jen has been interested in health and fitness from a young age whilst studying for a Dance degree in London. With lessons in Anatomy and Physiology alongside Nutrition and Diet, dancers were trained in a way more akin to that of a sports student which allowed for an equal emphasis to be place on how the body works as opposed to just performing to an audience. After graduating from University in 2000 and whilst working as a professional dancer and Performing Arts Lecturer, she began gaining different fitness qualifications and trained as a Gym and Fitness instructor, Massage Therapist, Reiki master as well as shifting to working with new Mums and babies as a Baby and Infant Massage Therapist.
Now the owner of Lemon Fitness, and the only Buggyfit franchise holder within the Bay, Jen who is a Mum herself, plans to readdress postnatal fitness by providing Mums with much needed expert advice and safe postnatal training.
With an emphasis on good posture and pelvic floor muscles which, following pregnancy can be one of the first things to be lost, Jen will work with you to regain your basic core strength and continually work to improve these muscles. By having great core strength foundation she can then expertly guide you through your own fitness journey.
