An easy wander to the Tor, with glorious views too – sometimes even with a glimpse of Exmoor in the distance!
Kestor Rock is 437 metres (1434ft) on Chagford Common, which is a beautiful and easy area to walk with children.
We did a simple little there and back which was about 2.5km. We walked from the smaller car park, past Kestor rock and then had our picnic at Middle Tor. On we way back we enjoyed seeing the ponies, climbing to the top of Kestor rock and my son liked the big puddle on top of the rock that was there in February! He also liked the stream by the car park.
If you’re after a loop (triangular) walk then start at the larger car park, walk to Kestor Rock (and Middle Tor if you like) head to the middle car park capillary.dissolves.multiple (not along the path you came from) where you will walk past Scorhill Stone circle and then walk parallel to the road back to your car. Kestor Rock: Walk
Walk type: Dartmoor open common, fairly flat.
Length: Kestor Rock is only about 1/2 km from the small parking spot and 1 km from the larger car park and easy to see! Our walk was about 2.5km.
Little Ones’ mode of transport: Sling or feet.
Footwear: Sturdy suitable shoes for Dartmoor walking.
Dog friendly: Yes – but be mindful of the Dartmoor ponies and sheep. No poo bins.
