February: Gruffalo Party Trail at Haldon Forest Park A great way to get the kids enjoying a walk in the forest. Follow the trail around Haldon Forest Park search for balloons, pine cones, apples and the Gruffalo himself, and complete fun activities and rubbings as you go along. 24 Jan – 16 February: Bing & Flop at Paignton Zoo, Storytime & Meet & Greet sessions Wednesdays to Sundays 11am and 2pm. Join Bing, Flop and one of Paignton Zoo’s Rangers for Storytime sessions at Matobo Camp where you can learn about the many wonderful animals which Paignton Zoo is home to, including African lions and Rothschild giraffes. Plus create special memories with your little ones as there will also be character Meet & Greets with Bing & Flop. There’s also an activity trail to follow Bing’s fun activity trail to learn about the animals at the zoo and help our zookeepers complete their checklist.
30th Jan – 17th February: What if…? Festival of Children’s stories by Theatre Alibi. A festival of stories for young people and their families in St Thomas and the wider Exeter area. There will be theatre performances, workshops, an exhibition, author and illustrator talks everyday of half term. And Emmanuel Hall will be transformed into a portal for creativity and play, all centred around the magic of story!
1-28 February: Mars: War & Peace, by Luke Jerram at Exeter Cathedral, Tickets £6, Free admission for children (under 18) within a family group. Experience artist Luke Jerram’s famous installation, Mars: War and Peace in the stunning nave of Exeter Cathedral, with sound composition by BAFTA award-winning composer, Dan Jones. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the artwork features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery* of the Martian surface. Featuring the sounds of seas, deserts and clips from NASA missions to Mars, it also incorporates the sounds of distant bombing and people marching, as if to war.
10th February: Pennywell Farm reopens for the season. A fabulous day out for children of all ages. We’ve been going for years and it’s my children’s favourite place. This half term they have a very special offer on – Enjoy unlimited visits this Feb half term – it’s up to 9 days of fun for the price of 1!!
12th February: The Sooty Show 75th Birthday Spectacular at Exeter Northcott Theatre 2:30pm This show sounds a lot of fun and tickets are going fast so grab them quick! Sooty, Sweep and Soo are planning a very special birthday party and you’re all invited. However, in true Sooty style nothing goes to plan! The party preparations are well underway: Sooty gets messy baking the birthday cake, Soo’s trying to find the perfect party dress, and Sweep’s practising his dance moves and needs some boys and girls to join in with musical statues! Sooty is planning his biggest magic trick yet making a member of the audience float in the air! Oh, and watch out for Sooty’s new water pistol. It’s turbocharged to reach right to the back of the theatre, so don’t forget your raincoat! With buckets of audience participation and gallons of giggles, this spectacular celebration of the longest-running children’s television show in the world will delight Sooty fans old and new and is a must-see treat for the whole family.
12-16th February: The Ivy: Little Ones Dine on us. For every paying adult a child ages 12 or under can enjoy a complimentary main course from our Littler Dreamers menu, featuring a host of kids’ favourites. Just download The Ivy app.
13th February: Lentsherd at Clovelly 3:30 pm A Shrove Tuesday custom. Historically the aim is to chase bad spirits away and drive the devil into the sea before Lent. At dusk children set off Down-a-long, dragging their clattering tin cans. When they reach the harbour, the children’s cans are then tied together, thrown into the sea and then retrieved. Children taking part will receive a free pancake to decorate with toppings.
13, 14, 15th February: Craft workshops at Pom Stitch Tassel Em hosts fabulous craft workshops for children and adults alike to enjoy. This half term choose between beginners sewing love bug, advanced sewing love bug, pompom cherry garland, knitted wire love heart and beginners cross stitch heart. Remember code Little Devon for a discount too.
13-15 February: Family Fun: Dream Big at The Box, Plymouth, Join us for some February half term fun when we’ll be taking inspiration from John Akomfrah’s stunning multi-screen film ‘Arcadia’ for a variety of free drop-in activities. We’ll be marbling paper and making beautiful dream books to capture the dreams or amazing daydreams you’ve had. Incredible local storyteller Abimbola Alao will also be with us to share the stories of some of the real life families whose lives are documented in our archives and who left Plymouth in the 18th century when the city was the busiest emigration point in England.
14th February: West African Drumming Workshop at RAMM, tickets £5:50, Join us for a fun and energetic drumming workshop exploring rhythms from West Africa, led by Kwame Bakoji-Hume from African Activities. No previous experience is required, just come ready to enjoy! Drums are provided. Suitable for all ages, children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Please ensure you book tickets for everyone that will be attending.
15th February: The Story Explorers at RAMM, tickets £5, Join Nellie and Nathaniel, intrepid explorers who have travelled around the world collecting story ideas for their Story Generator. From this magical machine they will spin a fiesta of tales with words, puppetry and movement. Watch them crank the starter handle and conjure up fabulous adventures from its secret compartments – the Cabinet of Curiosities, the Book of Wishes, and even the Box of Disasters! Through the bedazzling power of the Transmission Helmet, the Story Explorers will bring these tales to life for you.
15th February: The Magic Bookmark with Mama G at Bovey Tracey Library 15- 16 £3. Join us for an exciting pants adventure – fun for all the family, help Mama G find three books that will help make the world a better place to save the day from the evil Book worm.
15th February: Devon Science workshop at Whipton Hall. An exciting fun science workshop session with Devon Science. Get crazy with chemistry and explore the magic of science through our
hands-on, fun-filled workshop. Includes goodies to make and take home. Age range 5 – 11 ( All children must be accompanied by an adult )
