All August: Meraki Art School. Exeter’s Guildhall Shopping Centre, 1st Floor, in what was the old Coffee Pot unit. A fab summer holiday programme with tonnes of classes going on. Both one-off, book online workshops and some optional week long courses too.
23rd July-7th August: Red Riding Hood, Soapbox Children’s Theatre Plymouth. Outdoor promenade performance based on the traditional tale with a Stiltskin twist
29th July – 5th August: Sidmouth Folk Festival. A week-long celebration of music, dance and song in a stunning seaside location in East Devon. They have an enormous amount of fun things on for children over the week which can be seen at The Children’s Festival here.
28th July – 1st August: Family Garden Sessions at Dartington. In the beautiful community gardens there’s a series of gardening and craft workshops this summer. Each morning session will explore a different garden based activity to take part in together as a family, from foraging to flower crowns. Perfect for families of any age to make the most of the opportunity to connect with nature and learn on the land.
30th July – 31st October: Cockington Court Sculpture Trail 2022 – Insects Descend! Free Entry Art and culture enthusiasts, families and children all love exploring the trail, hunting for diverse sculptures dotted around the Manor House and grounds. Trail maps will be made available from the Visitor Welcome Point in the Manor House from 30 July.
2nd August: Shipwreck Sam, Sidmouth. Award winning Boo to a Goose theatre company present this show perfect for 4-10 years (younger children will enjoy watching with a parent) This is an exciting, highly interactive and multi-sensory show with puppetry, singing, dancing and games – includes a shark encounter – they will get a little wet!
2nd -30th August: Cockington Ranger Nature Club. Tuesdays during school holidays 10.00am -11.30am. A different activity each session, including stream dipping, sweep netting and wild art, you will discover hidden life and natural wonders in Torbay’s green heart! Wild Art, Mini Beasts, Photography, Stream Dipping, Trails.
4th, 9th, 12th, 17th August: Cycle Fest. Organised by Active Devon and Live & Move, there are six FREE fun-filled summertime events. With lots to see and do for all ages, plus free goody bags, and free tea and coffee.
3rd, 10th, 25th, 27th August: Family Forest Sessions at Dartington. Take time as a family to connect with nature and learn together on the land. These fun and relaxed sessions are designed for families to take part in together and are open to all ages.
4th August: Honiton Agricultural Show. Grown to be one of the largest one day agricultural shows in the country. We have children’s entertainment in abundance; Come and meet the amazing animated characters Sheridan the Sheepdog and Pumpkin the Pony, enjoy the fabulous Twistopher Punch & Judy Show or how about a wonderful donkey ride?

6th August: Awful Auntie, Killerton House. Awful Auntie by David Walliams, adapted for outdoor theatre by Heartbreak Productions, is a truly thrilling tale. Owls, ghosts, chases, escapes, motorcycle rides, and tiddlywinks all fill Stella’s days as she evades her menacing Aunt and saves the family home. So, please join us at the dedication of the new playground at Saxby Hall and hear how it all came about. Make sure you bring a blanket or chair to sit on, weather-appropriate gear, and a picnic, as the tale could take some time to tell, and storytelling can be hungry work!
9 – 14 August: The Little Big Festival, Ashburton in partnership with Ashburton Arts centre. We are pleased to present an exciting 5-day programme of music, film, poetry, workshops, photography, fashion and fun. Day tickets available.
19th -25th August: Beautiful Days, Escot Park. Beautiful Days is the Levellers’ independent family music festival. As well as several stages including a seated Theatre Tent, the festival has Site Art installations, a huge Children’s Area, Walkabout Theatre, family camping, real ale bars, Folk Sessions and a vast selection of carefully chosen food & craft stalls.
20th & 21st August: Dartmouth Royal Regatta – Family Fun Weekend. The packed full weekend will include traditional family entertainment, stalls, live music, Morris Dancers, fairground games and even a surf simulator! Everything you need for a perfect family day out.
21st August: Superhero School, 9:30am, 12:15pm and 3:00pm, Bear Town. Batman and Wonder Woman will be hosting BearTown’s first ever Superhero School. Visitors will learn all the best Superhero moves and undertake a special mission within the Town.
23 August: 10:30 – 16:00 Meldon Wildlife Festival. Join the National Park and partners for a wild day out celebrating Dartmoor’s unique and beautiful wildlife. A free fun-filled, event for all the family! There will be lots of wildlife activities to help you get closer to nature and nature crafts to take home.
25th -28th August: Gone Wild Festival, Powderham Castle. We went last year with PR tickets and had an absolute blast! It’s a festival about family fun, adventure and inspirational heroes. We didn’t book onto many of the activities, but enjoyed many of the walk up activities available and even were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go on some of the pre-book activities too. My then 4 year old really enjoyed the climbing wall, caving tunnels, and assault course among other things. My 2 year old enjoyed the circus shows and paddling with me in the canoes. My favourite was dancing to the amazing bands in the evening with my children – feeling I was young and fun again! This year they are also offering Day tickets – a more affordable option for a fabulous and memorable day out.
26th August: Sidmouth Airshow 5pm. Headlining the line-up will be the world famous RAF Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows who will return to the town’s skies to display at one of their favourite locations over the bay at Sidmouth. They will be joined by two Supermarine Spitfires of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Rich Goodwin in his amazingly aerobatic Pitts Biplane. A first for the Sidmouth Airshow will be an appearance by Team Raven, a civilian aerobatic team flying a five plane formation of the ultra-manoeuvrable Van’s RV-8 aircraft.
27th August: Topsham Charter Day. Opening Procession 2pm, Street market along Fore St, Children’s activities & entertainers, 7.30pm Music on the Quay.
30th – 31st August: Brainiac Live: Remixed! Exeter Northcott
31st August: A day of Julia Donaldson. Made for the Stage at Ullacombe Farm shop and cafe. In this 4 hour workshop, we will explore 3 of our favourite stories through fun, engaging games, crafts, dance and storytelling – with a performance to parents at the end! The session is £25
