In our house, we love to give the gift of a children’s book as often as possible and Father’s day is right up there at the top of the list.
As with all these things, if you can shop local then that’s great. For books there’s your local Library – click here for Devon Libraries Unlimited website or fabulous independent book shops such as Winstone’s in Sidmouth or Crediton Community Bookshop in Credition.
But sometimes Amazon is a convenient alternative. I’ve linked all the recommendations below to Amazon (just click on the picture or the title) or go straight to my Amazon ‘shop front’ page here for a few extra titles too. All links are affiliate links. The affiliate link means I might earn a small amount if you click through and then buy the book within a certain timeframe. It has absolutely no effect on the price you pay, but it will be a little token and help me to keep creating great content for you to enjoy. Thank you so much for supporting me.
I love this story (and often change the daddy to mummy when I read it!). It’s a great one about the love the child and father feel for each other; ‘I love you as high as I can jump’ the child says while jumping, and then the father jumps even higher. Our little one went through a stage of quantifying her love like this too. My favourite was ‘I love you all the way to Killerton!’
“This gorgeous picture book has become a modern classic. “Shhh. Beware. My dad is a grizzly bear. In this family, it’s just possible that Dad is a grizzly bear . . . He has fuzzy fur, enormous paws and loves the outdoors. He sleeps a lot even in the cinema and when he’s awake, he’s always hungry, usually eating up all the honey. What else could Dad be? But sometimes, when it’s scary at night, a lovely big bear hug is just what is needed. A hilarious debut picture book written by Swapna Haddow author of the Dave Pigeon series and illustrated by the brilliantly talented Dapo Adeola author of Look Up!“
“And the worst thing? Daddy Fartypants always blames someone else. But that all changes when he meets Little Bear’s lovely (and very windy) new teacher… Full of fun, farts and family … look no further for the book to share with Dad! Emer Stamp is the creator of the bestselling The Unbelievable Top Secret Diary of Pig and winner of the 2019 LOLLIES book awards.”
“But super Daddy Pig makes their day anything but ordinary by adding lots of fun and excitement to everything they do! Daddy Pig makes every day an adventure in this delightful picture book with a sparkly cover, it’s perfect for little piggies and their daddies on Father’s Day and all year round!”
A simple and funny story comparing dad with lots of similes. We gave this one for Father’s Day a couple of years back and my daughter started to even learn it off by heart!
“My dad can wrestle with giants,
eat like a horse,
swim like a fish . . . Can yours?
A brilliant, humorous look at fatherhood from a child’s point of view, from this multi-award-winning author/illustrator.”
