We say:

“Bonjour, Bonjour, c’est Lingotot, c’est super!”

French or Spanish the fun way.  Gone are the days of reciting verb conjugations or asking for directions to the garage, instead Lingotot is geared to the world of little ones with songs, parachute games and crafts.

At Lingotot, familiar English nursery rhymes are translated into the target language so children feel confident to join in humming the tune, doing the actions and not before long singing the lyrics too; traditional French and Spanish rhymes and songs are learnt together; and, just as some children are getting a little restless, there are songs that require everyone up and on their feet marching round the room or doing the ‘hokey cokey’.  New vocabulary is introduced through games such as ‘what’s missing?’ or the kids’ favourite – ‘bounce the object on the parachute’.  There are stories and crafts too (the crafts sometimes created by the parents!) and the kids all love their Lingotot sticker given out at the end of the session!

Whether a baby, a toddler or pre-schooler, Adam (class leader- fluent in French and Spanish) makes the classes fun with his enthusiasm, animated singing and storytelling, and relates very well to the children and parents alike, making it an entertaining class for all.

A bonus: As soft play is just in the next room at Bear Feet and Planet Play (free entry to soft play at Planet Play), parents can get to know each other over coffee or being buried in the ball pit by the little people.  Children are well and truly worn out after a morning of mental and physical excursion!

A little about Lingotot

Lingotot is a multi-award-winning language class written by Angela Sterling, Former Head of Primary MFL and Founder of Lingotot, who left teaching to launch the children’s language business in 2010 in a bid to ‘introduce children to languages at a much younger age’.  Angela developed the classes to be interactive and fun, yet based on sound educational research; something she knows a thing or two about having worked with Newcastle and Southampton universities to research language acquisition at different ages and, when teaching, her GCSE students ranked in the top 10 in the world.  She says: “The benefits of learning a second language at a young age, when the brain is still developing, are huge and I have witnessed so many children leap forward academically, but also with confidence and social skills because of their understanding of language and culture.”

Research suggests that ‘learning a second language is known to increase creativity, critical thinking skills, and problem solving in young children’ and ‘children who know two languages can gain an academic and social advantage over those who speak only one.’  ‘Children have an amazing ability to learn language and this happens best when it is interactive, engaging and child-centered’- exactly like Lingotot classes.

Exeter Lingotot Centre

Rebecca (Franchise owner for Exeter & Exmouth) has a toddler and new-born herself and also attends some of the weekly classes.  With a degree in French and Italian as well as A Level German, GCSE Spanish and some basic knowledge of Mandarin she knew she wanted languages to be a part of her son’s life but struggled to find classes for his age in the local area.  In September 2017 she set up her Lingotot franchise in Exeter and Exmouth offering French and Spanish classes in BearFeet Exeter and Ocean Exmouth.
